How to replace a car mirror
Replacing a car mirror is a relatively simple task that can be done at home with a few basic tools.
Here is our step-by-step guide:
Tools you'll need:
- Replacement mirror (make sure to get the correct type for your car)
- Screwdriver
- Wrench or socket
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
Instructions:
- Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
- Put on safety glasses and gloves.
- Locate the mirror you need to replace. The side mirrors are typically located on the front doors, and the rearview mirror is located on the windshield.
- If you are replacing a side mirror, you will need to remove the door panel. Consult your owner's manual for instructions on how to do this. Once the door panel is removed, you will see the mirror assembly. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the mirror assembly using a screwdriver or wrench.
- If you are replacing the rearview mirror, you will need to remove the windshield trim. Consult your owner's manual for instructions on how to do this. Once the windshield trim is removed, you will see the rearview mirror assembly. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the mirror assembly using a screwdriver or wrench.
- Install the new mirror assembly in reverse order of removal. Be sure to connect the electrical connector and tighten all screws and bolts.
- Test the mirror to make sure it is working properly.
Additional Tips:
- If you are having trouble removing the old mirror assembly, you may need to use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive.
- Be careful not to overtighten the screws and bolts when installing the new mirror assembly.
- If you are replacing a side mirror, you may need to adjust the new mirror so that it is properly aligned.
